During the Iraq War, the military bases of the United States and its allies were modular in concept, with living quarters composed of mobile containers and gigantic tents. Not only the containers but also the tents are produced by specialist firms which deliver them in a ‘turnkey’ condition, complete with working electrical and mechanical systems and lightweight, durable furniture. Numerous functions are housed in separate tents – there are tents for sleeping, dining, and showering, along with toilets, gym, workshop, and office tents.
