Joshua Morton and his artist wife Susan Weinthaler chose a former parking garage in a newly fashionable part of Manhattan as the site of their new home. They renovated the third floor of the building, and instead of partition walls, the LOT-EK architectural studio used a second-hand petroleum trailer tank to divide the 140 m² space. The tank was cut in half and one half was hung horizontally, containing two sleeping capsules accessed by hydraulic hatches. The other half of the tank was placed vertically in the space, the water pipes on its outer surface giving a clue to its function: inside are two bathrooms, one on top of the other.
