House for Elderly People

This old people’s home near Lisbon has been extended with a new 60 bed building. The terrain-hugging building snakes across a park, dividing it into smaller, more conveniently sized spaces. The ground floor has direct access to the garden and is devoted to communal spaces and recreation rooms, while the upper two storeys contain single and double bedrooms with balconies and en suite bathrooms. The deep, striking balconies also serve a practical purpose, protecting the rooms from direct sunlight while providing plenty of light thanks to their white surfaces. The view could be improved however, as the buildings large windows are somewhat wasted if they look out upon a less than beautiful view.
